The Two Circles

The founder of Ikthoos, Nap Clark, was well known for developing a simple illustration in order to demonstrate the simplicity of the gospel. It is affectionately known as, “The 2 Circles”.  Campers and counselors will see this illustration numerous times throughout the week of camp, and will hopefully learn it well enough to explain it to others.

When he taught, Nap would often draw two separate circles on his overhead projector and show that there was a difference between being justified by the finished work of Christ and being sanctified by the resurrection life of Christ. One of Nap’s church members suggested that he put the sanctification circle inside the justification circle and the Two Circles Illustration took on its current form. The illustration was Nap’s favorite way to share the gospel and he would often show it to people on the back of sales receipts or any scrap of paper available.

Not only has this clear illustration brought many people to faith in Christ, it has also helped countless people over the decades to better understand God’s grace, the simplicity of salvation, and have assurance of salvation.

The 2 Circles illustration was one of the final things that Nap Clark ever taught before going to be with the Lord. On July 18, 2012, Nap was teaching at the night rally at Ikthoos. He drew his illustration that night and then went to bed to wake up in the presence of his Savior.

Two Circles Ministries

Carrying on Nap’s legacy, one of the students he mentored, Dr. Kenny Hodges (a familiar face at Ikthoos),  established Two Circles Ministries, a non-profit ministry founded for sharing the simple gospel of faith alone in Christ alone for the gift of eternal life and to help those who have put their faith in Christ to grow in their walk with Him. Resources, sermons, writings, and more can be found at www.the2circles.org.
